Reflections on Klein

Yves Klein spent his life trying to capture something that resists capture — a blue so pure it exists on the edge of the immaterial. This collage begins where one of his paintings does, using a fragment of that surface as the world in which two Victoria-crowned pigeons stand, accompanied by fish, fungi, frogs and butterflies.
The figures are mirrored but not matching. You never see yourself the way another sees you and, the self you were is never quite the same as the self you are becoming.
The blue holds both of them equally, without preference, without judgment. Whatever has changed, whatever is still changing — it is also, it turns out, beautiful.
